Principal's Message: We are PHS!
We are Safe, We are Respectful, We are Responsible, We are PHS!
Dear PHS Families,
I am delighted to begin this school year as the principal of Powhatan High School. I have had the pleasure of working with many of you over the past four years as assistant principal, and I am excited about continuing our partnership in a new role. Additionally, I am the very proud mother of a PHS Class of 2021 graduate and a rising PHS sophomore. Go Indians!
Recognizing the disruption to traditional learning over the past 16 months, I remain committed to fostering a school environment that supports the success of every student by educating the whole child and creating conditions for learning, which include a positive, inclusive culture, dynamic approaches to instruction, clear expectations, and family partnerships. We haven’t lost sight of our mission to prepare our students to thrive in a global community. As we welcome back all students in the building for five days a week of instruction, we anticipate some transitional needs, and we stand ready to support every student!
Student wellness is a priority; our teachers and school counselors will continue to identify student needs and help provide and connect families with appropriate supports. We will take steps to identify and address unfinished learning to prepare students to be successful with future academics. Finally, we will be modeling and reteaching safe, respectful, and responsible behavioral expectations throughout the school environment.
The teachers and staff of PHS can’t wait to see our students all back together again! I encourage you to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to an amazing 2021-2022 school year!
